Embroidery at Home — Step by Step

Everything you need is in the kit. No prior experience needed.

Step 1: Transfer the Design

Place the napkin flat on a table.

Put the yellow carbon paper on top (yellow side facing the fabric).

Place the printed design over it.

Trace the design gently with a pencil or pen.

Remove both sheets — your design will be lightly marked on the fabric.

Step 2: Set the Fabric in the Frame

Loosen the embroidery frame.

Place the traced fabric between the two rings.

Pull the fabric tight so it’s smooth and firm.

Tighten the frame.

The fabric should feel taut, like a drum.

Step 3: Thread the Needle

Cut a length of thread (about the length of your forearm).

Use the needle threader to pass the thread through the needle.

Knot one end.

Tip: Metallic thread works best in shorter lengths.

Step 4: Start Stitching

Bring the needle up from the back of the fabric.

Follow the traced lines slowly.

Refer to our Stitch Guide for short, clear video guides of each stitch:

Use the thimble to protect your finger when pushing the needle through.

Focus on rhythm, not speed.

Step 5: Change Threads or Colors

Secure the thread at the back with a small knot.

Trim neatly using the cutter.

Re-thread the needle with a new color and continue.

Step 6: Finish the Embroidery

Once complete, knot the thread securely at the back.

Remove the fabric from the frame.

Gently iron from the reverse side if needed.

Care Instructions
